How Not to Drive Others Crazy with your Hobbies
I very much believe that having a hobby and a group to belong to is very healthy. Whether you read, knit, are into D&D, or like me and love NKOTB, sometimes people can get a little tired of hearing about it. So I came up with five tips on how not to drive others crazy with your hobbies. These tips can be used for any hobby you have, but for the sake of this article, I’m using NKOTB.
Driving people crazy with my hobbies in the late 80’s and 90’s.
If you don’t know already, I am a NKOTB fan. Back in the day I had the dolls, the cassette, the sleeping bag, and the towels. My first crush was Donnie Wahlberg. I remember my cousin and I planning our weddings to Donnie and Jordan.
Some time passed and I did listen to any rumors or gossips about a reunion-when they did finally get back together in 2008, I was planning my wedding.
A Hobby that Drives People Crazy
In 2013, my cousin and I went to their concert in Dallas. My husband was okay with it. He probably got a little tired of hearing me talk about it, but I think I mostly kept it on the Down Low.
I don’t know that my husband even batted an eye when my cousin and I got tickets to go to the concert in 2015.
After the concert in 2015, we got the bright idea to try to make it to the cruise in 2016.
That’s when the transition from casual fan to super fan began.
Leading up to the cruise in October of 2016, and well….up ‘til now, I have been totally NKOTB crazy. While my husband understands the fun, nostalgia, and letting loose that NKOTB causes, I know… Click To Tweet
Think of something they like that you just aren’t all that into. My husband is into NASCAR, chili cook-offs (He’s currently the Head Pepper of his chili Pod), and football. While I have an appreciation for all these things, GO KYLE BUSCH, they can get a little old after a while. I try to remember, while I am fascinated by all things NKOTB, I don’t want to hear every little detail about a NASCAR race.
I did get him tickets to the Bristol Night Race! AND our favorite driver Kyle Busch won!
Find a place to share your craziness. Blockheads are the greatest! I am in several NKOTB Facebook groups, they would much rather hear about Donnie’s latest tweet, or Jonathan’s newest Instagram post than my husband would.
Don’t cross the line from fan to obsess. At one time I was accused of stalking Donnie online. Donnie is always online though, so I don’t consider this stalking….However, there does come a time that you have to live your life and understand there are other things out there.
Be aware of those around you. If people start sending you NKOTB paraphernalia in the mail, maybe you are just a little too into them. Not that it happened to me 😛 It’s good to have a hobby, but you can’t let it take over your life.
Do stuff with others that doesn’t involve your hobby. Have some NKOTB free time. While my husband loves me, I am sure he appreciates when I go a whole day without somehow mentioning or including NKOTB. However, Blue Bloods and Wahlburgers start again soon, so he might see it on TV anyways ;P
Are you a blockhead, Whalbonkers, one of Joe’s Hoe’s Army? Do you have a hobby that drives others crazy? Tell me about it, I want to know!
